Default Salvaging

Do you salvage everything that drops that not worth using or selling to another play? does this include purples and golds?

I only salvage what I need to get the armor that I will be buying in Ascalon and Droknar's forge, not counting of course salvaging to get runes and upgrades. The rest I sell to merchants or give away, rarely sell to players.

Make sure you salvage runes from armor BEFORE you identfy them.

I salvage cheap items for their respective ingredients (i.e. iron ingots from a longsword) and then use to make armor (as mentioned) or sell to other players, often in bulk. A little dwarf once told me that you can use "expert" salvage kits to salvage rare crafting items from "highly salvageable" items....

oh, and he also mentioned that you can make a good gold piece in Droknar's by selling crafting items to players...

On an off-topic note (a thousand apologies), why is my name in profile tiny and the rest absent? Do I need more posts to activate it?

Happy salvaging

Cyrinn, that is weird. I've seen others act up similar but not to that extent.

I'm pretty sure they don't have to be highly salvageable.
whether or not it's a function of how many pieces you get from an item, though, I couldn't say.

depending on your play, you'd better be getting anywhere from 3-6 pieces from an item to make rolling dice on the expert kit worth it, but that's absent data on the frequency of rare material.
so, basically, I'd stick to the regular kit prekryta w/the occasional exception of runes and mods.
just remember that a lot of those junk runes will only bring 25 gp at the trader while the unsalvaged armore would've brought more at the merchant.

salvaging stuff just really depends on your own play.
if you're trying to make money, then yes -- salvage everything.
most of that crap looks good at first, but you'll quickly realize it's more time than it's worth to try to shlep it around the districts to sell.
stick to selling the higher end stuff and just salvage all the mediocre crap for materials.

edit
just because something is gold doesn't automatically mean it's valuable.
if it's not max stats, or not some hot item, it's only worth money to the people w/no money --- n00bs.
